Back to the Source

I have been a Christian for my whole life and yet I feel challenged right now to go back to my Source.  Rediscover the one who I follow.  It is so easy to say we follow Jesus but then recoil when His ways are uncomfortable and His requests seemingly unreasonable. 

So I was wondering is it that we have been so seduced by 'the world' and all it's attractions that taking up our cross each day seems like a tall order. 

I for one have bought into the notion that my life is mine to live and I am to pursue my dreams and so on.  But is that really what Jesus said our lives are really about?

And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and takeup his cross daily, and follow me. Luke 9:22-24

It seems to me, easier to do the following part, especially if that leads to Salvation and all of it's blessings, but not so easy to do the denying myself part.  I'm not meant to be chasing my own pleasures, satisfying my own wants and needs and comfort.  Jesus wants for me to lay aside my own agenda for my life and be available to become His disciple and walk with Him.  

That sounds like an adventure in itself.  I am quite excited about where that might lead.  I think I have become tired of trying to work out this life for myself and make sure I live it well.  It appears liberating to let Him lead.  The thing is I like to be in control, so giving that over is quite monumental for me and yet quite appealing.  
 
My challenge is : Can I lay down my agendas, my dreams, my hopes for my life and embrace Him.   Let Him be my source again.  Is Jesus 'enough'?  

Isaiah 55v8-13
⁸ For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord.
⁹ For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.
¹⁰ For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater:
¹¹ So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.
¹² For ye shall go out with joy, and be led forth with peace: the mountains and the hills shall break forth before you into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands.
¹³ Instead of the thorn shall come up the fir tree, and instead of the brier shall come up the myrtle tree: and it shall be to the Lord for a name, for an everlasting sign that shall not be cut off.
